The British Office will become the British Embassy once a new Iraqi government is established.\u003cbr/\u003eWednesday was the first day applications were being accepted for the few jobs currently vacant.\u003cbr/\u003eOne group of workers in Baghdad who are currently far from happy is the city's medical workers.\u003cbr/\u003eHundreds of doctors and nurses took to the city streets on Wednesday to protest against conditions, pay, and the US appointment of the former Iraqi Vice Minister for Health, Ali Schnan, as the \"Head of Health\" for the interim administration.\u003cbr/\u003eThe European Union's top humanitarian aid official concluded a twenty-four hour visit to postwar Iraq on Wednesday.\u003cbr/\u003ePoul Nielson, European Commissioner for Development and Humanitarian Aid, visited the Al Yamouk hospital - hit by heavy bombing during the war.\u003cbr/\u003eThe European Commission has passed funds to the aid agency Premiere Urgence to refurbish the hospital.\u003cbr/\u003eNielson said the European Union' role as a funder of humanitarian aid was \"clearly demonstrated\" by the damage to the hospital.\u003cbr/\u003eNielson later met with Ramiro Lopes da Silva, the UN humanitarian coordinator in Iraq, to discuss further facilitation of humanitarian aid in the country.\u003cbr/\u003eOn Wednesday American troops were also distributing free petrol in urban areas of Iraq in an effort to quash a growing trade in black market fuel.\u003cbr/\u003eFuel shortages are occurring throughout the country as reserves run low and motorists are forced to queue for up to six hours to have their tanks filled. \u003cbr/\u003eAmerican authorities say the problem is not a lack of fuel but a shortage of trucks to distribute it. The war severely disrupted the distribution network as trucks were commandeered by the Iraqi defence forces, wrecked by bombing or stolen by looters. \u003cbr/\u003eThe US authorities hope that using their own military tankers to distribute petrol and other fuels will curb a growing trend of profiteering. \u003cbr/\u003eBlack market 'benzine' - the local term for petrol - is currently selling for
