Mid men playing dominoes \u003cbr/\u003eGambling is becoming an growing phenomenon in Georgia.\u003cbr/\u003eThe million dollar industry mainly booms because of high unemployment rates.\u003cbr/\u003eWith rising unemployment in Georgia (between 13 and 30%), gambling is becoming a problem. \u003cbr/\u003eFor some, gambling has become a way of life and a promise of a wealthy future. \u003cbr/\u003eSlot clubs are jammed with youngsters and the elderly who spent most of their time here. \u003cbr/\u003e\"I am a frequent visitor here, and I think it is due to social problems. I have a lot of free time, so I come here every day. Mostly I lose, but there are instances when I win. Frankly, I want to quit, but I find it very difficult,\" says Giorgi Abashidze, an unemployed 41 year-old resident of Tbilisi. \u003cbr/\u003eThe gambling industry is pouring millions each year into state coffers. \u003cbr/\u003eAccording to the Georgian Finance Ministry, gaming fees generated some �9 million US Dollars in the first seven months of 2009. \u003cbr/\u003eThere are only three casinos in the country, but more than 250 slot clubs in Tbilisi alone. \u003cbr/\u003eSlot parlours have proliferated partly because of steep annual casino licensing fees (5 million lari, or just under $3 million US Dollars), while annual license fees for slot clubs stand at just 20,000 lari (about $11,886 US Dollars); outside Tbilisi, at a mere 12,000 lari ($7,131 US Dollars).  \u003cbr/\u003eMarina Goksadze, a psychologist, says that gambling addiction is one of the most difficult to cure.\u003cbr/\u003e\"This behaviour (gambling) is devastating for the human being, and I have to say it has the same symptoms as drug addiction.
