after the residents 24 hours 7 days a week.\u003cbr/\u003eEdinburgh Zoo is one of Europe's leading centres of conservation, education and research.\u003cbr/\u003eSet in 82 acres of sloping parkland, three miles to the west of Edinburgh city centre, the zoo boasts more than \u003cbr/\u003e600,000 visitors each year. \u003cbr/\u003eOwned by The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland, the Zoo opened in July 1913. \u003cbr/\u003eConservation is an important part of what they do here and the zoo is home to around one thousand rare and endangered animals. \u003cbr/\u003eCadonna Goodman is the vet in charge of caring for Edinburgh Zoo's injured and sick animals.\u003cbr/\u003eAt the start of each Tuesday and Wednesday Cadonna receives a list of sick or injured animals that require examination.  \u003cbr/\u003eShe says she is reliant on the keepers who check the animals for signs of ill health.\u003cbr/\u003eEver since the introduction of three king penguins in January 1914, Edinburgh zoo has been a pioneer in the care and science of penguins. \u003cbr/\u003ePenguin Keeper, Ros Talbot checks the birds on a daily basis for any health problems.\u003cbr/\u003eIf a penguin shows signs of sickness the team note its colour band and consult the vet.\u003cbr/\u003eThe zoo is also home to two more unusual residents, Binturongs.\u003cbr/\u003eOften referred to as the 'Bearcat', the Binturong belongs the civet family and originates from Southeast Asia.\u003cbr/\u003eThey are skilful climbers using their tail as an anchor on branches while tearing at fruit with their
