Astronauts on station including commander Peggy Whitson  preparing \"cuff-link\" repair structure \u003cbr/\u003eNASA engineers are planning some important repair work on Saturday for the shuttle Discovery astronauts at the international space station (ISS), officials said in Houston, Texas on Thursday.\u003cbr/\u003eThe centre piece of the project is a space walk to fix a couple of rips in a solar array. \u003cbr/\u003eSpeaking at a mission status briefing in Johnson Space Centre STS-120's lead ISS flight director Derek Hassmann, said they were working towards a good solution. \u003cbr/\u003e\"We weren't ready for Friday, we've now targeted Saturday and when I left the control centre today, all pieces of the plan I felt were coming together,\" he said. \u003cbr/\u003eThe solar array tore while being unfurled by astronauts on Tuesday, apparently snagging a support for one of the solar wing's guide wires. \u003cbr/\u003eEngineers did not want to reel it in for fear of causing further damage, and the station's robotic arm is too short to reach the torn section. \u003cbr/\u003eNASA plans to attach the shuttle inspection boom to the arm and send one of the astronauts out on it to free the snag.\u003cbr/\u003eNASA worked furiously on Thursday to plan a space walk to fix the ripped solar wing at the international space station, in an effort to solve the problem before the shuttle Discovery undocks.\u003cbr/\u003eHassmann reported on Thursday afternoon that he was confident the work could be done with the various plans that were being finalised.\u003cbr/\u003eLead spacewalk officer Dina Contella described the variety of tools astronaut Scott Parasynski was to use for the job.\u003cbr/\u003e\"He's going to have some cutters for cutting wire, he's going to have a spatula, essentially that he's going to use, you know, to flip, flip panels or gromets, offending gromets. colleague Doug Wheelock to tackle the job on Friday but had to push back the outing to Saturday to give officials on the ground more time to fine-tune the repair plan.\u003cbr/\u003eOn Thursday, the astronauts aboard the linked shuttle-station put together makeshift mini braces for the torn wing, using short strips of aluminium and tape.\u003cbr/\u003eThe mini-braces, or \"cuff-links\" as NASA engineers call the loops to be used in reattaching the snagged solar array panel.\u003cbr/\u003eContella described how Parazynski would work out on the end of two booms attached together and then out on an extender with a work platform attached to the end.\u003cbr/\u003eThe solar panel tear is the more pressing of two major issues hampering power production on the orbital outpost. \u003cbr/\u003eA rotary joint that controls the solar wings on the opposite side of the station is also causing problems.\u003cbr/\u003eBoth issues threaten to disrupt future construction work at the station,
