Then \"Shaadi Online\" is just the Western-style dating, or marriage, show for you. \u003cbr/\u003eUsing a combination of prime-time TV and the Internet, \"Shaadi Online\" has helped arrange dozens of marriages since going on the air in Pakistan three years ago.\u003cbr/\u003eIt's in contrast to the conservative Muslim culture, where the family usually decides who their son or daughter will marry. \u003cbr/\u003eNot only do viewers seem to like watching young Pakistanis choose their partner, but it also helps men and women in what can be an agonising search for love. \u003cbr/\u003ePakistani singles at home and abroad are tuning into a new television matchmaking show, both on TV and online, to watch couples find love and marriage. \u003cbr/\u003e\"Shaadi Online\" bucks the arranged marriage tradition that many families use to find suitable partners for their children. \u003cbr/\u003eThe programme makers say that Pakistani parents are also watching the show to pick up tips on the types of qualities their sons and daughters want in husband or wife, so they can use them during traditional matchmaking interviews. \u003cbr/\u003eOn a recent show, 20-year old Aliya Ansari, a Pakistani national who lives in Dubai, said she was looking for an open-minded, tall, professional husband who would like to live in Dubai with her.\u003cbr/\u003eAs fate would have it, one of the computer match-ups was Muhammad Kashif, a 24-year-old banker in Dubai.\u003cbr/\u003eMuhammad happened to be one of the two men featured on the same show - which also caters to Pakistani expatriates looking for a partner in their homeland. \u003cbr/\u003eOnce on the set, the Pakistani contestants are gently questioned by the hosts on their preferences for a mate. \u003cbr/\u003eThat information is fed into a computer database of 100,000 singles. \u003cbr/\u003eThey are presented with a list of possible matches to choose from, and, on the show, they phone the ones that most catch their eye, while viewers listen. \u003cbr/\u003eSingles who have registered with the database via the Internet can also express an interest by e-mail. \u003cbr/\u003eA married couple is also on the set to offer advice on the suitability of a proposed match - a nod to Pakistani tradition.\u003cbr/\u003e\"Shaadi Online\" has not attracted strong resistance from the country's formidable religious lobby, although some conservatives, if asked, object that it is frivolous and undermines the Islamic nation's values. \u003cbr/\u003eBut the show's makers play down comparisons with Western dating shows. \u003cbr/\u003eProgramme host Mustanswer Hussain Tarar, a prominent writer and actor, says that the show isn't really a dating show. \"It offers a helping hand in making a social contract with the consent of the couple and their parents,\" he says.\u003cbr/\u003eAmong the Shaadi Online success stories are Sadaf Amir, 22, and her husband Amir Shaikh, 29, a pharmaceutical sales representative. \u003cbr/\u003eSadaf says that programme avoids the first interview with lots of different potential partners and their families in traditional matchmaking, which may lead to nothing. \u003cbr/\u003eAmir was the successful candidate amongst a staggering 8,000 men who expressed an interest in marrying Amir after she appeared on the show. \u003cbr/\u003eShaikh said he had failed to find a wife through traditional matchmaking, but says he has now found love with Sadaf. \u003cbr/\u003eThe couple are now married and living in the southern Pakistan city of Karachi. \u003cbr/\u003eSo
