The theme was the eighteenth century. And by looking at all these magnificent pieces at the Mobilier National, we discovered furniture that belonged to Marie Antoinette. It was then we realised we wanted to do something about her. And as soon as we thought of Marie Antoinette, we thought of Zahia,\" said Gilles.\u003cbr/\u003e\"Zahia came to our mind. It was like a flash,\" added Pierre.\u003cbr/\u003eTheir installation at the gallery continues the Marie Antoinette theme, with furniture and other items inspired by the eighteenth century.\u003cbr/\u003e\"After the picture, we did the installation and what we enjoyed was to place this furniture off the wall in a way. It is actually already displayed in a unusual place, in the Shell Cottage at the Chateau de Rambouillet farm surrounded by animals. We loved this idea of this precious furniture in the countryside. We liked it a lot. So we placed some animals in there too, some small rats some country rats, or they could also be prison rats,\" said Gilles.\u003cbr/\u003ePushing the boundaries is typical of the French partners in love and art, whose full names are Pierre Commoy and Gilles Blanchard. \u003cbr/\u003eThey have established a worldwide reputation for shock ever since their stylized, hand-painted homoerotic photos first appeared nearly 40 years ago.\u003cbr/\u003eToday, their iconic images of stars such as Madonna, Kylie Minogue, Mick Jagger and Catherine Deneuve appear alongside images of naked gay porn stars in glittering and fantastical scenes on coffee tables around the world.\u003cbr/\u003eBut their art goes beyond famous faces.\u003cbr/\u003eAs with the Dehar photo, they always try to challenge prejudice over racial and social minorities - here, by using the former sex-worker-turned-fashion designer from a former French colony as the legendary French queen.\u003cbr/\u003eTheir takes on racism, religion and sexuality include an illustration of a loin-clothed Jesus writhing on the cross and Adam and Eve in a pornographic pose.\u003cbr/\u003eMost recently, the pair drew attention on the day France's parliament legalized gay marriage in 2013, when their self-portrait as newlyweds, below a photo of a camp and grinning President Francois Hollande, covered the front page of France's leading leftwing daily \"Liberation.\"\u003cbr/\u003eThe cover, which is now a collectors' item, was seen to lighten the atmosphere - with a much-needed touch of irony - of the angry debate over gay marriage that bruised and divided France and saw hundreds of thousands take to the streets in protest.\u003cbr/\u003e\"It was fun to us to introduce the official portrait of Hollande above us while we had wigs and were looking ridiculous. We did something funny. This is how we wanted to talk about the subject.
