And then this would be a testing ground for them across the nation. Obviously a lot of them did not come. We've had Steve Forbes and Alan Keyes come.\u003cbr/\u003eSUPER CAPTION: Basil Battaglia, Republican Party State Chairman.\u003cbr/\u003eIn fact, Steve Forbes was the only well-known Republican candidate who spent much time in Delaware at all.\u003cbr/\u003eHe was trying to revive his sagging presidential hopes after dismal showings in Iowa and New Hampshire. \u003cbr/\u003eBob Dole and Pat Buchanan had no organisation here at all, opting to focus on key southern states with more delegates. \u003cbr/\u003eDespite his absence, local officials said the impact of Buchanan's hard line, direct style is having its effect even in Delaware.\u003cbr/\u003eWell again, as I would say all along, I think Buchanan probably has -different people have mentioned that, you know, that he's a force to be dealt with.\u003cbr/\u003eSUPER CAPTION: Jane Hance, Wilmington election official. \u003cbr/\u003eWhile they may not vote for him, Delaware voters said they appreciated Buchanan's focus on key issues, unlike mainstream candidates like Dole and Lamar Alexander.\u003cbr/\u003eBut other voters said they were disillusioned with all the candidates.\u003cbr/\u003eThe candidates are just, you know, politicians who are afraid to deal with the hard core issues.
