The event is part of the 15-day long Sindh Festival, the brainchild of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the patron-in-chief of the Pakistan Peoples Party. The festival aims to highlight the cultural diversity of Sindh, and focus attention on the various cultural heritage sites in the province to ensure their protection, preservation and promotion. \u003cbr/\u003eThe picturesque Hindu Gymkhana provided a majestic background for the stylistic attire on display, while music and dance performances made the entertainment holistic - even if there weren't enough folk artists in attendance. \u003cbr/\u003eThe designers on display included some of the biggest names of Pakistan, including Bunto Kazmi, Amir Adnan and Umar Sayeed along with Nauman Arfeen, Zaheer Abbas and the youth-centric label Fnk Asia. All the collections had a strong indigenous touch, borrowing heavily from the Sindhi culture.\u003cbr/\u003eUmar Sayeed, one of Pakistan's biggest names, provided proof of the craftsmanship of the artists across Sindh with his intricately designs and appropriately embellished outfits. Various aspects of traditional Sindhi attire were tastefully exhibited through motifs and sequins in the entire collection.\u003cbr/\u003e\"The collection was all about, very Pakistani, you know, very Pakistani but in a modern way. So I've used embroideries and colors - the colors of Sindh. The first collection which I presented was very colorful - like Thar. So it was a very Sindh-inspired collection,\" said Sayeed.\u003cbr/\u003eYoung designer Zaheer Abbas went even further, basing his entire collection on the 'Ajrak', a traditional Sindhi shawl. He used the fabric with its various patterns and styles for a whole range of outfits as well as accessories. While singular in dimension in using the fabric, it still showed creativity in the vast range of products that can be created from that same 'Ajrak'.\u003cbr/\u003e \"My collection's name is 'Ajrakistan'. It is a combination of Ajrak and Pakistan. Because Ajrak is a hallmark of the Indus Valley Civilization, so I think it's very relevant to show Ajrak tonight. And Ajrak, I have tried to show the versatility of the fabric and have made hats and evening gowns, accessories, bags, and pants and jackets, a lot of things out of Ajrak, So, it's basically how you can use it in your daily life,\" Abbas said. \u003cbr/\u003eThe festival, which is finishing its second week, continues to highlight various aspects of Sindhi culture, bringing together people from different walks of life. The event has also raised concerns in certain quarters over the choices of location, as most events have been held at cultural sites. But Sharmeela Farooqui, the Advisor to the Sindh Chief Minister on Culture, dismissed the naysayers, while reiterating the objectives of the festival.\u003cbr/\u003e\"The idea behind it (the Sindh Festival), the cause behind it is to promote, preserve and protect your cultural heritage sites. It's time we realize that it is our identity which is at stake, and we want to protect the true identity of Pakistan, the colors, the culture, the beautiful cultural heritage sites in Pakistan; and as you see this Fashion Festival is also held at a cultural heritage site,\" said Farooqui, emphasizing on the need to project a softer image of Pakistan.\u003cbr/\u003eThe fashion segment of the Sindh Festival proved that Sindh's indigenous culture has a lot to offer to Pakistan's burgeoning fashion industry. It also provided a platform for local artisans and craftsman to link up with established designers and showcase their talents. By incorporating traditional ideas and fusing it with modern styles, leading Pakistani designers have done a major service to the Sindhi heritage. It also earned them widespread praise from critics and commoners alike. Each collection was strongly cheered, and the designers expressed hope that the outfits exhibited would soon be seen on the streets.\u003cbr/\u003e\"Umar Sayeed's gorgeous, beautiful craftsmanship was just to die for and (also) the silhouettes. The designers and the models put their best foot forward, while the organizers left no stone unturned in ensuring a majestic display.
