peacekeeping force is demanding that all Falintil pro-independence rebels hand in their weapons.\u003cbr/\u003eMajor General Peter Cosgrove has been stung by allegations of alleged bias in favour of independence supporters, including the rebel group Falintil.\u003cbr/\u003eMore foreign troops are arriving in East Timor to boost the Australian-led peacekeeping force.\u003cbr/\u003eThe two-week-old military mission now has more than six thousand troops on the ground out of an expected total of seven and a half thousand.\u003cbr/\u003eSo far successful in restoring order to the ravaged capital Dili, the force has been criticised for its slow deployment into the countryside.\u003cbr/\u003eAnd is finding it hard to stick to its mandate of disarmament.\u003cbr/\u003eThis platoon of British Gurkhas tried to persuade a group of pro-independence rebels to give up their arms.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Falintil commander said his men would only disarm if the Gurkhas established a permanent security presence in the village.\u003cbr/\u003eThey could not oblige and the rebels were allowed to keep their guns.\u003cbr/\u003eIncidents like this bring allegations of bias from disarmed militiamen -
