Various of orchestra delegation posing for photo in front of plane \u003cbr/\u003eThe New York Philharmonic Orchestra arrived in North Korea on Monday on a historic trip as the most prominent American cultural institution to visit the country.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Asiana Airlines plane carrying the orchestra landed in overcast conditions with light snow. \u003cbr/\u003eAPTN North Korea showed the orchestra's president and director, Zarin Mehta, and music director, Lorin Maazel, disembarking from the plane and being greeted by North Korean Minister of Culture, Song Suk Hwan.\u003cbr/\u003eNorth Korea made unprecedented accommodations for the orchestra, allowing a delegation of nearly 300 people, including musicians, staff and journalists, to fly into Pyongyang on a chartered plane and stay in the country for 48 hours.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Philharmonic accepted the North's invitation to play last year, with the encouragement of the US government, at a time of rare optimism in the long-running nuclear standoff involving the two countries. \u003cbr/\u003eMaazel told APTN North Korea he would not speculate about politics but said the orchestra's performance could help bring people from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the US a little closer together.\u003cbr/\u003e\"I'm a musician not a politician so I wouldn't speculate on anything other than the music,\" he said as arrived in Pyongyang.\u003cbr/\u003e\"But music has always traditionally been an arena or an area where people can make contact.
