These are leaks through flanges or gaskets, not unlike an oil leak you might have in your car, very small drips I would say. We don't consider them consequential involving the integrity of the well head.\"\u003cbr/\u003eCapitol Hill congressmen were grilling the US Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar on Tuesday over the Administration's response to the Deepwater Horizon situation in the Gulf of Mexico.\u003cbr/\u003eHigh on the list of priorities for many members of the committee is the halt on all drilling in the Gulf.\u003cbr/\u003eSalazar defended changes in the agency that oversees off shore drilling leases and inspections and would not back away from the six month moratorium on drilling.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Secretary insisted that despite efforts by drilling companies to meet new requirements, the moratorium would stay in place until all inspections were completed at the end of November.\u003cbr/\u003eA congressman from Illinois, far from the Gulf, tried to get Salazar to admit the economic costs and consequences of the moratorium.\u003cbr/\u003eSalazar is restructuring the department that oversees off shore oil drilling and implementing new regulations for oil companies and drilling platforms to work in US territorial waters.\u003cbr/\u003eMeanwhile, the government's oil spill chief tried to tamp down fears on Tuesday that BP's capped well is buckling under the pressure, saying that seepage detected along the seafloor less than two miles away is coming from an older well no longer in production.\u003cbr/\u003eRetired Coast Guard Admiral Thad Allen also said at least five leaks have been discovered around the well machinery, but he dismissed them as \"very small drips - not unlike an oil leak you might have in your car.\"\u003cbr/\u003eOver the past few days, since a 75-ton cap was placed over the well to keep the oil bottled up inside, BP and government engineers have been watching closely to see whether the well would hold tight or show signs of rupturing under the pressure. A rupture could cause a bigger and harder-to-control disaster.\u003cbr/\u003eAllen has granted BP repeated 24-hour extensions to keep the cap in place, as long as the company monitors the well
