newspaper Jyllands-Posten and reprinted in a Norwegian magazine last month, sparked boycotts and demonstrations against Denmark throughout the Muslim world.\u003cbr/\u003eIslamic tradition bars any depiction of the prophet to prevent idolatry.\u003cbr/\u003eThe front page of the daily France Soir on Wednesday carried the headline \"Yes, We Have the Right to Caricature God\" and a cartoon of Buddhist, Jewish, Muslim and Christian gods floating on a cloud. \u003cbr/\u003eInside, the paper reran the drawings.\u003cbr/\u003eSerge Faubert, Editor in Chief of France Soir defended his decision to re-publish the cartoons \"to reaffirm a fundamental principle: the freedom of expression.\"\u003cbr/\u003e\"We cannot accept that a religious dogma, whatever it is, forbids illustrators to draw freely,\" Faubert said. \u003cbr/\u003eFrance's Muslim community, Western Europe's largest with an estimated 5 million people, was muted in its reaction to the drawings when they appeared in the Danish newspaper.  \u003cbr/\u003eBut the re-printing of the cartoons in France sparked a wave of protests amongst the country's Muslim leaders. \u003cbr/\u003eMohammed Bechari, President of the National Federation of the Muslims of France, said his organisation would start legal proceedings against the newspaper. \u003cbr/\u003e\"One cannot in the name of the freedom of expression, of journalistic freedom, have the right today to insult and provoke an entire community, the Muslim community in France,\" Bechari added.\u003cbr/\u003eA French government spokesman struck a neutral tone on the issue - reiterating France's commitment to freedom of expression and secularism while also urging respect of all faiths.\u003cbr/\u003eGermany's Welt daily also printed one of the drawings on its front page on Wednesday, arguing that a \"right to blasphemy\" was anchored in democratic freedoms.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Danish daily published the cartoons after asking artists to depict Islam's prophet to challenge what it perceived was a tendency of self-censorship among artists dealing with issues related to Islam. \u003cbr/\u003eThe depictions include controversial images such as Muhammad wearing a turban shaped as a bomb with a burning fuse.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Jyllands-Posten apologised on Monday, saying it regretted offending Muslims. \u003cbr/\u003eIt said it had not broken Danish
