Various of three guards at Luxor temple\u003cbr/\u003eWith the ongoing unrest in Egypt, those who work in and around the country's famous sites of antiquity have been concerned those sites were not safe from looters.\u003cbr/\u003eAlongside this tourists to the country's ancient sites have reported harassment by street sellers. \u003cbr/\u003eNow security around the sites including police guards have been stepped up.\u003cbr/\u003eKarnak is a series of ancient ruins of temples and statues and carved pillars, which stands near the Egyptian city of Luxor.\u003cbr/\u003eIt is a popular tourist attraction and like many of the other tourist attractions in Egypt, attracts its fair share of people with souvenirs to sell.\u003cbr/\u003eAround the ruins at Karnak souvenir sellers approach tourists as they exit the temples.\u003cbr/\u003eTheir behaviour can be seen as a form of harassment by some, and a humorous attempt at selling souvenirs by others.\u003cbr/\u003eAt Karnak there have been disputes between street sellers and the guides who accompany tourists around the sites.\u003cbr/\u003ePapyrus seller Hussein Ahmed Hussein has been working at the site for fifteen years.\u003cbr/\u003eHussein, who lives right next to the temples, says during times of particular unrest if he heard looters were active in the area he and his friends rushed to the temple in the middle of the night.\u003cbr/\u003eThe temple is his lifeline, he says, and it is his duty to protect it.  \u003cbr/\u003eIn his opinion the guides create problems for his work. He and his fellow guards work in shifts keeping watch throughout the day and night.\u003cbr/\u003e\"My fellow guards and I patrol the sites morning and night, all times of the day.
