In a woman there'll be some masculinising effects, reduction of fat, increase in muscle, perhaps deepening of voice, growth of hair, and probably reduction of breast size. \u003cbr/\u003eQuestion: how does this relate in terms of the East German girls' swimming team? Have you had any opportunity to be close to these swimmers? So you think they have any characteristics that indicate any abnormality?\u003cbr/\u003eFitch: difficult question some Germans have deep voices and some of the swimmers have deep voices... certainly their performances in the pool and in the other big events, they don't seem to come up in the other events.. is rather remarkable. Couple of swimmers came out of the woodwork last night in the 400 metres, they haven't been performing internationally at that sort of level, and suddenly they are up there. \u003cbr/\u003eQuestion: In your view what explains this?\u003cbr/\u003eFitch: I thk you've got to go bak to grass roots. Early identification, heavily funded, sports schools and scholarships, they've made sport their greatest export in terms of image. One thing I have to say is they are not playing the game in terms of scientific intercourse. What I mean is in terms of medicine and science (film speeding up strangely) if you've got a discovery, you write it up and the world knows about it.
