We ordered the wardens not to use their live ammunitions because we don't want to repeat the tragedy of Abu Salim (Gaddafi prison massacre in 1996 when nearly 1300 inmates were shot dead) and kill our own people. prison guards, Smeda Ghofran, described how \"a group from the Special Forces stormed the prison.\" \u003cbr/\u003eHe then said \"another group of Special Forces opened the doors and started to fire at us.\"\u003cbr/\u003eThose who escaped either faced or were convicted of serious charges, the prison official said.\u003cbr/\u003eHigh-risk detainees charged or imprisoned for extremist ties had already been transferred to a more secure prison in the capital, Tripoli, before the prison break, the official said.\u003cbr/\u003eSpecial forces said they arrested 18 of the escapees, while some returned on their own, said Mohammed Hejazi, a government security official in Benghazi.\u003cbr/\u003eThe city of Benghazi was the birthplace of the country's uprising against Gadhafi's rule and is
