Close up of Melissa\u003cbr/\u003eA young schoolgirl with a rare skin disease has been helped by the development of a new type of fabric. \u003cbr/\u003e11-year-old Melissa Hughes, from Stockport in the north of England, suffers from a rare genetic condition called Epidermolysis Bullosa, or EB.\u003cbr/\u003eIt means her skin is incredibly fragile, and it can blister and tear when rubbed by clothes, bedding or from human contact.\u003cbr/\u003eBut now her nights have been made easier because of bedding made from a new material called Parafricata.\u003cbr/\u003eChildren with EB are often referred to as 'Butterfly children' as their skin is very sensitive, fragile, and easily damaged.\u003cbr/\u003eNow the connection between EB and the butterfly symbol is now internationally recognised.  \u003cbr/\u003eMelissa Hughes can get up to twenty blisters every time she turns over in bed, and her parents can not hug her because friction will cause  her skin to blister.\u003cbr/\u003eNurse Jackie Denyer and her mum spend three hours a day changing Melissa's dressings.\u003cbr/\u003eNight times can be uncomfortable for EB sufferers but a new fabric is about to change that.\u003cbr/\u003eParafricata has been developed, which reduces friction against the skin.\u003cbr/\u003eIt is a strong and washable fabric that has been designed to help in wound healing and with severe skin disorders.\u003cbr/\u003eThe fabric means there is almost zero friction between the skin of the person wearing or using it and the exterior.\u003cbr/\u003eParafricta has been designed by a company with the same name in Ascot, southern England.\u003cbr/\u003eGeorge Sampson, the CEO of the company, says Parafricta designs products that work against friction.\u003cbr/\u003eParafricta also has military applications.\u003cbr/\u003eIt was originally designed for use in fighter jet ejector seats to prevent friction and injury when pilots are released.\u003cbr/\u003eParafricta heard about Melissa Hughes and the pain that EB caused her.\u003cbr/\u003eDesigner Valerie Bannister says she really wanted to help Melissa and reduce her suffering.\u003cbr/\u003eGeorge Sampson says their fabric helps EB sufferers, but also those with very sensitive skin, such as diabetics or the long-term bed bound.\u003cbr/\u003eParafricta currently
