Shot pans to translator\u003cbr/\u003eAfghanistan's president Hamid Karzai has shrugged off an attempt on his life in Kandahar on Thursday, saying it was an individual act that did not mean Afghanistan was out of control.\u003cbr/\u003eHe said he was more concerned by the loss of life in Kabul, after the bombing there which killed 26 people. \u003cbr/\u003eBut he said he believed both incidents to be individual acts, not a sign of overall instability in the country. \u003cbr/\u003eHowever he did also say he would be more careful about his security in future. \u003cbr/\u003eKarzai made his first public appearance on Friday since the assassination attempt when he flew to Kabul to meet visiting Russian Defence Minister Sergei Ivanov.\u003cbr/\u003eOn Friday, Afghan police and intelligence staff questioned suspects about Thursday's assassination attempt and a bloody car bombing in Kabul the same day that killed and injured dozens of people.\u003cbr/\u003eThe would-be assassin, dressed in a security uniform, emerged from the crowd greeting Karzai as he left the governor of Kandahar's palace and fired on the president's car. Karzai had been told shortly before about the bomb in Kabul.\u003cbr/\u003eKarzai's American bodyguards killed the gunman and two other men, both carrying weapons. One was an Afghan bodyguard for Karzai and the second was a bystander, officials said Friday.\u003cbr/\u003eThe governor of Kandahar, Gul Agha Sherzai, was grazed in the neck by the gunman's bullet. He was treated and released Thursday from the medical unit of the US air base south of the city.\u003cbr/\u003eAfghanistan's defence minister, Mohammad Qasim Fahim, said Thursday's attacks had not
