Mr Wadia was a filmmaker foremost, but he was also a writer, a poet, a lyricist. he had a very deep interest in political philosophy and was a proponent of radical humanism as proposed by (undecipherable) Roy, so in his birth centenary year we chose to celebrate his talent and his lifes work by having a poster exhibition.\"\u003cbr/\u003e7. WS gallery\u003cbr/\u003eAn exhibition of vintage Bollywood posters has been on display to celebrate the centenary of the birth of a pioneer of Indian film, JBH Wadia.\u003cbr/\u003eThe studio he co-founded, Wadia Movietone has opened its archives to present its unique collection of Bombay's movie related art history.\u003cbr/\u003eThe exhibition spans 40 years (1933-1976) and displays posters, lobby cards, publicity booklet covers and other memorabilia, all selected from the studio's stores.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Wadia Brothers of Wadia Movietone produced more than 180 feature films between 1926 and 1981.  \u003cbr/\u003eThe 45 posters exhibited chart the evolution of Indian Cinema, from the advent of 'talkies' to the beginnings of Bollywood in the 1970s, all from the perspective of one of the country's top 5 studios.\u003cbr/\u003eIn the early years of cinema, films where often shown in tents owned by the circuses, and they used their own familiar text based style to publicize the \"flickers\" as they called the strange moving images. By the 1910s advances in the printing process combined with the impact of French artist Toulouse Latrec to introduce bold colour and amazing art to the marketing process. By the time the talkies arrived, film posters were already an art form in their own right.\u003cbr/\u003eLike most of the world Indian film posters initially followed the size and layout format which emanated from Hollywood. But the challenges in India were different - posters needed to be tri-lingual, as well as appeal to the large illiterate population. The Indian style that emerged emphasised the stars and played down the text, or did away with it altogether.\u003cbr/\u003eJ.B.H. Wadia was born on 13th September 1901, and moved into silent film making in the 1920s.\u003cbr/\u003eHe set up the production studio Wadia Movietone with his brother and noted distributor M/B Billmoria, in 1933 coinciding with the introduction of talkies in India. Their first all-talking film 'The Prince of Yemen' caused a sensation, as did their 1935 film 'Lady Wields The Whip,' which made them a household name throughout British colonial India.\u003cbr/\u003eJ.B.H Wadia continued to write direct and produce films until he sold the studios in 1981, during which time he had been very active in India's independence movement, written books of poetry in English and Gujarati, helped define the \"Bollywood\" style of lush locations with the introduction of colour, and encouraged the next generation of film-makers. \u003cbr/\u003eThe
