winds and rain continued punishing Mexico's Caribbean coastline, where at least seven people were killed.\u003cbr/\u003eFlood waters forced tourists in hotels and shelters to climb to higher floors, as Wilma ripped away storefronts and peeled back roofs in the holiday resorts of Playa del Carmen and Cancun. \u003cbr/\u003eThe full extent of the suffering and damages remained unclear, as winds continued to make reconnaissance by state and federal authorities almost impossible and a meter (3 feet) of water blocked coastal highways.\u003cbr/\u003eAfter a lull, violent winds and rains slammed Cancun again after dark Saturday, pushing flood waters even higher.\u003cbr/\u003eThe hurricane sent water surging over the narrow strip of sand housing the city's luxury hotels and raucous bars, joining the sea with the resort's alligator-infested lagoon on Saturday.\u003cbr/\u003eSeveral dozen people looted at least four convenience stores, carrying out bags of canned tuna, pasta and soda, while others dragged tables, chairs and lamps from a destroyed furniture store.\u003cbr/\u003eDowntown Cancun was littered with glass, tree trunks and cars up to their roofs in water. \u003cbr/\u003eSunday could bring an additional 10 inches to 15 inches of rain to the already saturated Yucatan peninsula and western Cuba, according to the U.S. National Hurricane Centre in Miami.\u003cbr/\u003eWilma was a Category 2 hurricane with winds of 100 mph (160 kph) as it crawled northeast, but was expected to pick up speed and strength, sideswiping Cuba before it slams into Florida. \u003cbr/\u003eThe hurricane's centre was located 55 miles (90 kilometres) north of Cancun early Sunday morning.\u003cbr/\u003eBy 2 a.m. EDT (0600 GMT), Wilma had taken a turn and begun a slow tack toward the north-northeast. \u003cbr/\u003eThe storm had maximum sustained winds near 100 mph and was located about 55 miles north of Cancun, Mexico, or about 370 miles west-southwest of Key
