The clothes were so great.  The ideas were so great that for all the crazy mistakes that we made, something wonderful happened.  Stephen was a really different kind of designer.  Most of them have these giant, outsized personalities, and as flamboyant as Galliano is, Stephen was that subtle.  But all these ideas exploded out of him.  His art was always on the walls.  He was always writing graffiti on the wall.  He always had great music.  And there was something about his spirit that always inhabited the people that were around him, that wore his clothes, that lived in his orbit. And he did really cool stuff. Debbie Harry performs 'Call Me' and wishes the crowd a Happy New Year\u003cbr/\u003eWhen iconic 80s designer Stephen Sprouse passed away in 2004, he left behind a impressive legacy. \u003cbr/\u003eOn Thursday, Louis Vuitton and the company's artistic director Marc Jacobs paid tribute to Sprouse with an evening of events in honour of the visionary artist.  \u003cbr/\u003eThe night reached it's climax at a star-studded party at the Bowery Ballroom on Thursday (08 JAN 2008), which featured a special performance by Sprouse's personal friend, rock legend Debbie Harry.\u003cbr/\u003eSprouse is credited with pioneering the merging of downtown street wear with uptown fashion.  \u003cbr/\u003eHis graffiti became an unmistakable signature on clothes and artwork.  \u003cbr/\u003eSpeaking at the event - model Veronica Webb talked about Sprouse's talent:\u003cbr/\u003e\"His art was always on the walls.  He was always writing graffiti on the wall.  He always had great music.  And there was something about his spirit that always inhabited the people that were around him, that wore his clothes, that lived in his orbit.\" \u003cbr/\u003eIn 2001, Marc Jacobs asked Sprouse to work together on Louis Vuitton's spring-summer collection and together they created the iconic Monogram Graffiti collection: a series of handbags covered in graffiti that sold out before reaching stores.  \u003cbr/\u003eNow the Louis Vuitton Soho store will carry limited-edition Stephen Sprouse T-Shirts and special edition skateboard decks created specifically for this occasion.  \u003cbr/\u003eAll proceeds from these sales will be donated to Free Arts NYC.  \u003cbr/\u003eIn addition, Louis Vuitton will be making donations to the Stephen Sprouse Memorial Scholarship Fund at the National Academy for Design.\u003cbr/\u003eThe event also celebrates the opening of the Stephen Sprouse exhibit, 'Rock on Mars,' on show at the Deitch Projects Wooster Street Gallery from January
