We didn't see it until it arrived, all the artists made it in the galleries, so we think that the Biennial should take risks and we should take a chance on young artists, and invite them to come in and do something different. Bush, the oil industry, and the war in Iraq.\u003cbr/\u003eFeaturing more than 250 works from over 100 artists in a range of media, \"Whitney Biennial 2006: Day for Night\" opened on Thursday and runs through to  May 28.\u003cbr/\u003eThe title reflects a sentiment the curators say runs through much of the work in the show - that artists are existing and creating in an 'in-between' time in history, a moment of uncertainty in everything from the art world to politics.\u003cbr/\u003e\"This particular moment (in history), I think, feels very unsettled, it's a very global situation, borders are changing, political situations are changing all over the world, and America is very much a part of that dialogue, and so I think that the artists are always very prescient, they always take the temperature of what's going on, \" Chrissie Iles, one of the show's two co-curators, said. \u003cbr/\u003eIn Nari Ward's \"Glory,\" three oil barrels are welded together and split apart to create a tanning bed. \u003cbr/\u003eThe surfaces of the tanning area are overlaid with stars and stripes, so that tanners could have the symbols of the American flag screened onto their bodies.\u003cbr/\u003eArtist Richard Serra's poster \"Stop Bush\" was created for the 2004 elections - it features a silhouette of one of the men seen in the Abu Ghraib photos.\u003cbr/\u003eThe \"Peace Tower,\" created by Mark di Suvero and Rirkrit Tiravanija is a recreation of the \"Artists' Tower for Peace\" from 1966, which protested the Vietnam War. \u003cbr/\u003eAdam McEwen looks at celebrity culture, with a number of \"obituaries\" of people who are still alive, including Bill Clinton and Nicole Kidman. \u003cbr/\u003eThe show also reflects a shift in what's considered \"American\" art - some of the art comes from Americans living and working overseas, while other pieces were created in the United States by artists who are native to other countries.\u003cbr/\u003eA
