We've come to rescue you,\" said Elijah Kamau.\u003cbr/\u003eNairobi police chief Benson Kibue said the gunmen had besieged the building, and officers were on the ground engaging the attackers.\u003cbr/\u003eHe said the men were trying to rob a shop within the mall.\u003cbr/\u003eA combined police and military force continued to surround an upscale Kenyan mall on September 22nd, where a hostage standoff with Islamic extremist attackers was ongoing.\u003cbr/\u003eKenyan authorities said Islamic extremist attackers held an unknown number of hostages in the shopping centre located in the Westlands area of Nairobi, after killing at least 39 and injuring 150.\u003cbr/\u003eTrucks brought a fresh contingent of soldiers from the Kenya Defence Forces to the mall shortly after dawn on Sunday morning.\u003cbr/\u003eA barrage of gunfire erupted from the Westgate shopping mall at one point, according to Associated Press journalists at the scene.\u003cbr/\u003eMoments later two wounded Kenyan security forces were carried out.\u003cbr/\u003eSomalia's radical rebel group, al-Shabab, claimed responsibility for the attack in which they specifically targeted non-Muslims.\u003cbr/\u003eMeanwhile, Nairobi's hospital facilities have been trying to cope with the crisis. \u003cbr/\u003eGuru Nanak Ramgarhia Sikh hospital received some of the dead and injured after two other facilities in the capital were inundated.\u003cbr/\u003eHospital matron Bamra Surinder said they had received two bodies \"littered with bullets\" from the scene.\u003cbr/\u003e\"We have been very busy,\" Surinder said.\u003cbr/\u003eOfficials said Kenyans had turned out in droves to donate blood.\u003cbr/\u003eKenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta called the security operation under way \"delicate\" and said a top priority was to safeguard hostages.\u003cbr/\u003eKenya's interior minister said two \"terrorists\" were killed on September 23rd as military forces waged an operation to rescue hostages inside an upscale mall in Nairobi. \u003cbr/\u003eAfter four large blasts rocked the Westgate Mall on September 23rd, Interior Minister Joseph Ole Lenku said that the militants died from \"our morning activities.\"\u003cbr/\u003e\"Our forces are in full control of the situation,\" he said, adding that the large plume of smoke rising from the building was caused by the attackers burning mattresses \"to distract our action.\"\u003cbr/\u003eThe four explosions were followed by volleys of gunfire, then a thick, dark column of smoke that burned for roughly 90 minutes. \u003cbr/\u003eMilitary and police helicopters and one plane circled over the Nairobi mall, giving the upscale neighbourhood the feel of a war zone.\u003cbr/\u003eLenku said Kenyan forces were in charge of all floors inside the mall, though attackers could still be hiding inside. \u003cbr/\u003e\"The terrorists could be running and hiding in some store some where or something but all floors now are under our control. tenant Jane Mwende the loss was beyond words.\u003cbr/\u003e\"It's too much for me to even speak but there is a lot of water and we had to go see what was left as tenants and pick up what we could salvage,\" she said.\u003cbr/\u003eThe al-Qaida-linked Somali militant group al-Shabab on September 21st claimed responsibility for a deadly attack on a shopping centre in Kenya.\u003cbr/\u003eIt said
