We asked for a hearing before lodging the indictment and they agreed. The prosecution has agreed to postpone it several times but finally they refused,\" Olmert's lawyer, Eli Zohar, told AP Television on January 5th.\u003cbr/\u003eThe latest case broke two years ago on the strength of a businessman involved in the Holyland project who turned state's witness.\u003cbr/\u003eThe indictment accuses Olmert of seeking money, through a middleman, from Holyland developers to help out his brother, Yossi, who fled Israel because of financial problems. According to the indictment, Yossi Olmert received approximately 100-thousand US dollars.\u003cbr/\u003eOlmert is also accused of asking this middleman to help out city engineer Uri Sheetrit, who also had money woes. Sheetrit later dropped his opposition to the broad expansion of the Holyland complex, which expanded from a small development into a massive, high-rise project not in keeping with the character of the low-rise area. According to the indictment, Sheetrit received hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes.\u003cbr/\u003eThe 87-page indictment also lays blame on other powerful Israeli figures.
