It plunged into the vast open-air Simbazikita market not\u003cbr/\u003efar from the end of the runway, causing carnage and mayhem. The\u003cbr/\u003efive crew aboard the  Antonov AN-32 survived and apparently fled\u003cbr/\u003eto escape the wrath of thousands of distraught survivors. Four\u003cbr/\u003ewere in custody and a fifth being sought on Tuesday as the nation\u003cbr/\u003emourned its worst air disaster. The fuel-laden plane burst into\u003cbr/\u003eflames and engulfed the market. Many of the dead and several\u003cbr/\u003ehundred injured were casualties of the ensuing panic-stricken\u003cbr/\u003ecrush and stampede to get clear of the inferno. Shocked police and\u003cbr/\u003erescue workers were angered to discover local people looting the\u003cbr/\u003ebodies of those they were trying to help. Unofficial sources said\u003cbr/\u003ethe plane was making a secretive flight to Angola, deemed\u003cbr/\u003e\"sensitive\" because of that southwest African country's ban on\u003cbr/\u003eplanes from Zaire entering its airspace. Luanda has long accused\u003cbr/\u003eKinshasa of running weapons into Angola to support the former\u003cbr/\u003erebel army of the Union for the Total Independence of Angola\u003cbr/\u003e(UNITA) led by Jonas Savimbi. Such aircraft are usually in a poor\u003cbr/\u003estate and often manned by cavalier crews.  The Zairean government\u003cbr/\u003eordered an inquiry into the accident and declared three days of\u003cbr/\u003emourning.
