unanimously backed the proposal last month.\u003cbr/\u003eThe parliamentarians are specifically targeting the body and face-covering burqa and face-veiling niqab, which are still very rare features in Belgian public life. \u003cbr/\u003eNeighbouring France and the Netherlands may follow with similar initiatives for a ban on Islamic veils which hide the woman''s face in the street and other public places.\u003cbr/\u003eFrench President Nicolas Sarkozy on Wednesday moved closer to outlawing the garment from public view by ordering legislation on the ban. \u003cbr/\u003eSarkozy has repeatedly said that such clothing oppresses women and is \"not welcome\" in France.\u003cbr/\u003eProponents of the ban argue that the all-covering veil, which only a tiny minority of women in Belgium and
