Well at one time, the entire racing surface here at the speedway was covered by bricks, \u003cbr/\u003enow only this three-foot strip remains here at the start-finish line.\" \u003cbr/\u003e(Davidson)\u003cbr/\u003e(\"In 1909, the original surface was crushed rock and tar which proved to be a disaster and so in the fall of 1909, 3 million, 2 hundred thousand paving bricks went down.
