Wide of Forest Lawn Mortuary building\u003cbr/\u003eA California judge on Monday said that Michael Jackson's longtime attorney and a family friend should take over the pop singer's estate for now, rejecting a request from Jackson's mother to be put in charge.\u003cbr/\u003eLos Angeles Superior Court Judge Mitchell Beckloff backed attorney John Branca and music executive John McClain, who had been designated in Jackson's 2002 will as the people he wanted to administer his estate. \u003cbr/\u003eSpeaking on behalf of Branca, attorney Howard Weitzman said \"it's our obligation, our duty, our responsibility and our desire to do everything we can to carry out Michael Jackson's wishes\".\u003cbr/\u003eAttorneys for the pop singer's mother repeatedly objected to their appointment at Monday's court hearing.\u003cbr/\u003eThe singer's mother, Katherine Jackson, had applied to oversee her son's estate, but that was before the 2002 will surfaced. \u003cbr/\u003eHer attorney, Burt Levitch, expressed concerns about the possibility of other wills surfacing and said that the \"question of the appointment of a permanent executor also remains up in the air\".\u003cbr/\u003eHowever, L. Londell McMillan, Katherine Jackson's main attorney, assured they were not seeking a \"nasty fight over millions and millions of dollars\".\u003cbr/\u003eHe said the legal team had been working \"prudently and with care and great pause\" to ensure the will and settlement went smoothly.\u003cbr/\u003eAttorneys also disclosed that another Jackson will from 1997 has been lodged with the court, but would only become a factor if the 2002 will was invalidated. \u003cbr/\u003eDetails of the older will were not disclosed.\u003cbr/\u003eKatherine Jackson's attorneys had asked that she be appointed to serve as a co-administrator with Branca and McClain. \u003cbr/\u003eBeckloff refused to grant that request.\u003cbr/\u003eBranca and McClain will have to post a one (m) million bond on the estate, Beckloff ruled. \u003cbr/\u003eTheir authority over the estate will expire on 3 August when another hearing on the estate will be held.\u003cbr/\u003eLevitch told Beckloff that Branca had previously been removed from financial positions of authority by Jackson. \u003cbr/\u003eBranca's attorney says he was rehired by Jackson on June 17, days before Jackson's death.\u003cbr/\u003eLevitch said it was unclear whether McClain would serve as an administrator because he was of ailing health. \u003cbr/\u003eAttorneys for McClain and Branca described him as having a physical disability but having a completely sound mind. \u003cbr/\u003eThey also noted a decades-long relationship with the Jackson family.\u003cbr/\u003eThe judge granted Branca and McClain several powers over the estate, including the rights to negotiate a settlement with concert promoter AEG Live over refunds for Jackson's cancelled London shows. \u003cbr/\u003eJackson died on June 25, deeply in debt, but a court filing estimates that his estate will be worth more than 500 (m) million US dollars. \u003cbr/\u003eHis assets are destined for a private trust.\u003cbr/\u003eA public memorial has been scheduled for Jackson in downtown Los Angeles on Tuesday. \u003cbr/\u003eWinners of the hottest tickets in Hollywood showed up early on Monday to collect their rewards.\u003cbr/\u003eMore than 1.6 (m) million
