British girls getting in car, driving away from court, heads covered\u003cbr/\u003eTwo teenage British girls accused of attempting to smuggle 600,000 US dollars' worth of cocaine out of Ghana in West Africa pleaded not guilty as their trial began in the capital Accra on Thursday, officials said.\u003cbr/\u003eThe pair, both 16-year-old students from London, were detained on July 2 at Accra's international airport as they were preparing to return to Britain. \u003cbr/\u003eCustoms officials discovered the cocaine hidden in laptop cases during a search. The two were provisionally charged with drug possession and drug trafficking. \u003cbr/\u003eTheir case was transferred last week to a juvenile court, where the crimes carry maximum three-year prison terms.\u003cbr/\u003e\"It's a juvenile court and a juvenile act prohibits any details. I have had a word with the prosecution and defence lawyers and all they can confirm is that the charges were formalised and that their pleas were taken,\" Gary Nichols, a British High Commission spokesman said.\u003cbr/\u003eAsked what those charges were Nichols said: \"One count of possession, one count of attempting to export a controlled substance.\"\u003cbr/\u003eDrug trafficking is growing in West Africa. Cocaine, originating mostly in Colombia, is brought on small planes and dropped off on islands off the West African coast, and then distributed to couriers who carry it on to Europe.\u003cbr/\u003eBritish and Ghanaian officials began working together last year after the number of drug-related arrests at London airports from flights from West Africa began to soar.\u003cbr/\u003eOne of the girls has said the pair was duped by smugglers and did not know they were serving as drug couriers. \u003cbr/\u003eBritish officials say the two were recruited in London
