He has significant health problems in particular has a very weak heart but also has other health problems. He does have a family and the family really cares about him and they miss him and they want him back. And so I think it has been good that the family has made this appeal.  I think that's an important effort.  On the ground the response team are getting excellent cooperation, well to focus on the United States, there are all sorts of different ways the Americans can assist in providing information to the team. I guess I will just put it to you that way and they are completely cooperative.   They are working with the Iraqis, they are meeting with the Iraqi government.  They are also working with a number of other countries, as we are through our diplomatic missions as well.  That includes countries like Italy, the UK, Turkey, France. Rice and Downer shake hands and walk away\u003cbr/\u003eAustralian Foreign Minister, Alexander Downer, says his country's government is \"utterly determined\" to get hostage Douglas Wood released in Iraq.\u003cbr/\u003eSpeaking in Washington, DC, alongside U-S Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Downer acknowledged that the release may be difficult but said the Australian government was putting everything it could into seeking Wood's release.\u003cbr/\u003eDowner acknowledged the efforts of the United States government in assisting with the release.\u003cbr/\u003eHe also said that a family appeal, broadcast on the Al Jazeera television network, would be helpful.\u003cbr/\u003eWood's two Australian brothers have made an impassioned plea on the Arabic television for the release of their elder brother, saying he was ill and his abduction would not persuade Australia to withdraw troops.\u003cbr/\u003eThe appeal came hours after the Australian government made a similar plea for the freedom of 63-year-old engineer Douglas Wood, a Californian resident with an American wife.\u003cbr/\u003eThe brothers, Malcolm and Vernon, insisted that the Qatar-based Al-Jazeera network receive their plea, recorded in Canberra, before other media outlets in the hope that the exclusive deal would improve the chance of their message reaching their brother's captors.\u003cbr/\u003eWood was shown in a video released Sunday pleading with U.S., British and Australian leaders to pull their troops out of Iraq.
