Beijing.\u003cbr/\u003eChina is the world''s biggest auto market by vehicles sold but sales growth slowed from 35 percent in 2010 to just 2 percent in the latest quarter.\u003cbr/\u003eDemand has been curtailed by government credit and investment controls aimed at slowing an overheated economy.\u003cbr/\u003eDespite the slowdown, Chinese automakers were keen to show off new luxury models. \u003cbr/\u003eOne vehicle attracting attention was the new Red Flag Hongqi L7 limousine, made by China''s FAW Car Company.\u003cbr/\u003eThe brand has served as the official car for Chinese leaders, including Mao Zedong and Deng Xiaoping.\u003cbr/\u003eNow the company says it is trying to make a comeback and is seeking to compete with automakers such as Rolls Royce. \u003cbr/\u003eThe brand is excessive supply in a strong, but competitive market.\u003cbr/\u003eBut Andrew Thompson, the co-head of the automotive division for accountancy firm KPMG in China, said that slower growth is likely to slowed.\u003cbr/\u003eHe said he had observed that \"the prices are coming down, or at least we do not feel prices are going to increase.\"\u003cbr/\u003eSome Chinese manufacturers are trying to shield themselves from the domestic sales slowdown by expanding their exports.\u003cbr/\u003eZX Auto, a small domestic automaker based in Hebei, began an international expansion strategy in
