in Villavicencio, 75 kilometres south of the capital, Bogota, waiting for instructions on the whereabouts of three hostages held by the FARC (Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia) who were expected to be released at any moment.\u003cbr/\u003eTwo helicopters were waiting on the edge of Colombia's vast jungles to retrieve three rebel-held hostages, including a 3-year-old boy born in captivity, and reunite them with their families. \u003cbr/\u003eThree Red Cross planes were also standing by at the airport, where observers from eight countries were gathered, along with US filmmaker Oliver Stone.\u003cbr/\u003eThe helicopters were sent by Venezuelan president Hugo Ch�vez, and were waiting for FARC to supply the coordinates of the location of the hostages so they could go and pick them up.\u003cbr/\u003eThe hostages, Clara Rojas, her son Emmanuel, and the former Congresswoman Consuelo Gonz�lez, are somewhere in the jungle in the south of Colombia.\u003cbr/\u003eRojas was kidnapped in 2002 when she was serving as head of Ingrid Betancourt's presidential campaign.\u003cbr/\u003eBetancourt herself was kidnapped too.\u003cbr/\u003eRojas's son Emmanuel was born during her captivity, the result of a relationship with one of the guerrillas.\u003cbr/\u003eGonz�lez fell into the hands of the FARC when she was intercepted on a road in the southwest of the country in 2001.\u003cbr/\u003eThe hostage pickup was due to take place in a France-size section of Colombia's eastern jungle and for the operation to be completed FARC must give mission members the exact coordinates of the pickup.\u003cbr/\u003eColombia's US-allied government this week agreed to allow the Venezuelan helicopters into its territory to pick up former congresswoman Consuelo Gonzalez, hostage Clara Rojas and her young son, Emmanuel.\u003cbr/\u003eThe FARC rebels announced earlier this month they would unilaterally release the three hostages to Chavez in appreciation of the leftist president's attempts to broker a wider swap of 44 hostages - including three US defence contractors and former presidential candidate Ingrid Betancourt - for hundreds of jailed rebels.\u003cbr/\u003eColombian President Alvaro Uribe abruptly ended that mediation effort last month, saying Chavez had overstepped his mandate by contacting the head of Colombia's army.\u003cbr/\u003eFamily members of the hostages have nonetheless been urging Chavez on, seeing him as the only intermediary capable of breaking through a five-year standoff between the hermetic FARC and Uribe, whose father was killed by the guerrilla group.\u003cbr/\u003eSince Uribe took power in 2002, the two sides have never held face-to-face
