two-and-a-half-thousand year old temple are being given pamphlets outlining an appeal for the British Museum in London to return seventeen marble figures and parts of a 160-metre frieze. \u003cbr/\u003eThe marble sculptures were taken in the early 19th century by Lord Elgin, the British ambassador to the Ottoman Empire.\u003cbr/\u003eThe two-and-a-half-thousand year old Greek temple, the Parthenon, is one of the most famous sites in the world.\u003cbr/\u003eDespite its beauty, an international dispute overshadows it.\u003cbr/\u003eGreece is hoping to engage the help of tourists in its crusade to have seventeen marble figures and parts of the 160 metre long frieze returned from the British Museum in London.\u003cbr/\u003eMembers of the Greek Ministry of Culture are handing out thousands of leaflets in several different languages.\u003cbr/\u003eThe fliers claim that the Parthenon has been \"denuded and truncated, and say its wounds are gaping open.\"\u003cbr/\u003eGreece claims Lord Elgin stole the marble sculptures, and politicans, diplomats and artists alike, are all appealing to British prime minister Tony Blair for their return.\u003cbr/\u003eHowever Britain maintains that Lord Elgin acquired the sculptures legally, at a time when Greece was ruled by Ottoman Turkey. \u003cbr/\u003eTourists at the world famous site are mixed in their opinions on what
