I was still very young but it impressed me and it remained in my heart, especially the pictures and the photos which were taken in the Mother house, the sisters washing the clothes. Then, after many years of discerning and also of my own training, in 1980 I joined the Missionaries of Charity. I perceive it very clearly as a call of God coming to my heart, who wanted me to belong to him and to serve him in the poorest of the poor in the society of the Missionaries of Charity, following Mother Teresa.\"\u003cbr/\u003e5. forward.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Missionaries of Charity announced that Sister Mary Prema would take over as head late on Wednesday but gave no other details about her appointment at that time. \u003cbr/\u003eThe previous Superior General, Sister Nirmala, asked to be relieved of her post because of poor health.\u003cbr/\u003eSister Mary Prema told reporters in the eastern Indian city of Calcutta that God \"wanted me to belong to him and to serve him in the poorest of the poor in the society of the Missionaries of Charity, following Mother Teresa\".\u003cbr/\u003eThe 55-year-old bespectacled nun was born Mechtild Pierick in Reken in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia, according to the order.\u003cbr/\u003eShe was first drawn to Mother Teresa's work after reading 'Something Beautiful for God', a book about her life written by British journalist Malcolm Muggeridge.\u003cbr/\u003eSister Mary Prema met Mother Teresa at a youth gathering in Berlin in 1980 and joined the order that same year, serving mostly in Italy and other parts of Europe before moving to Calcutta in 2001.\u003cbr/\u003eShe is the second person to lead the order since the death of Mother Teresa. \u003cbr/\u003eSister Nirmala, 74, had been named head of the order during Mother Teresa's lifetime.\u003cbr/\u003eMother Teresa was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979.\u003cbr/\u003eShe
