The Robot Restaurant in Tokyo's infamous Shinjuku's Kabukicho red light district is a response to...\u003c/span\u003e\n\u003cspan class='full-description hide'\u003eA team of Japanese showgirls has dropped its usual raunchy routine to team up with a group of robots in a dazzling electronic performance. \u003cbr/\u003eThe Robot Restaurant in Tokyo's infamous Shinjuku's Kabukicho red light district is a response to many traditional show clubs in the city shutting down.  \u003cbr/\u003eThe bars and clubs of Tokyo's Shinjuku's Kabukicho district is an area usually little frequented by foreign visitors to Japan because it is a renowned red-light district.\u003cbr/\u003eBut the Robot Restaurant is changing all that.\u003cbr/\u003eIt's fast becoming a must-see for tourists - something that has both delighted and surprised owner, Namie Oosawa.\u003cbr/\u003e\"We're in Kabukicho (Tokyo's largest red-light district) and therefore originally my target audience were businessmen. I never imagined my show would transform itself into something women and even children would come to see,\" she says. \u003cbr/\u003eThe idea for Robot Restaurant was formed two years ago when many show clubs in the area were shutting down. Despite the business climate at the time, Oosawa first set up a restaurant offering diners a sexy show with girls and robots, certain it would appeal to many businessmen.\u003cbr/\u003e\"I was trying to create something that businessmen would like, by thinking of the things boys like at a young age. And that would be robots, trains, planes. Then I thought how, as kids, they must have also wanted to operate or get on robots. Combining this in a show with sexy girls, I was convinced I could come up with something appealing to businessmen,\" she explains. \u003cbr/\u003eBut following requests on social media, she toned down the raunchiness and soon realised that her new show was attracting a different crowd - tourists.\u003cbr/\u003e\"From the very beginning we just weren't attracting any businessmen and as I started wondering what I should do next, foreign visitors started trickling in. At first they were just a few, but soon after we even got some repeat customers. That's when I began to realise what we were doing could be attractive to foreigners so we decided to start promoting the show targeting foreign visitors and now we've sort of become a tourist attraction,\" she says. \u003cbr/\u003eDespite the glitz, Oosawa says that much of the show is produced by non professionals and many of the props used are made in house.\u003cbr/\u003e\"None of us are professionals and I'm not speaking just about myself, but even our stage director, our lighting staff, our sound engineers and backstage staff. Even for equipment maintenance we don't have professionals working here. We all do our best and pull together as a team. It's really hard work.\"\u003cbr/\u003eThe production has changed a lot since the opening night and Oosawa says she is constantly trying to change and improve things. She says she is very grateful for the unexpected success her show has achieved and the level of recognition the restaurant is getting.  \u003cbr/\u003eAnd despite her triumph as the owner, she still performs in it three to four times a day.\u003cbr/\u003e\"Our name is really famous now but I don't want people to come here and feel disappointed. I'm not planning on enlarging the show or taking it to other cities at this stage. I want to keep looking for areas where I can improve things and make it better. That's my main concern right now,\" she says. \u003cbr/\u003eVisitors' reactions were varied, but it seems that for most, the show is a hit. \u003cbr/\u003e\"The show was very pleasant. It was out of control and it was totally Shinjuku! If I could sum it up in one word,\" says James Ronan, a tourist from New Zealand.\u003cbr/\u003e\"I think the show is full of energy and well, ask my friend, beautiful girls . . . that's an attraction, that's for sure. So who knows.
