Looney talking in theatre\u003cbr/\u003eKEYWORDS: SCIENCE \u0026amp; TECHNOLOGY\u003cbr/\u003eEnglish/Nat\u003cbr/\u003eThe wonderful world of virtual reality has helped American schoolchildren enjoy a trip to  their capital..without setting foot in the city.\u003cbr/\u003eA field trip studying the inventions of college students was held for three schools in  Washington  but only one group of school children was actually in the American capital.\u003cbr/\u003eThe other two in Nevada and North Carolina were linked via video-conference capturing  the futuristic mood of the field trip where today's inventions could become tomorrow's  merchandise.\u003cbr/\u003eThis was a field trip with a difference for these young teenagers from Washington D.C.\u003cbr/\u003eNot only were they seeing inventions that could shape the way we live in the years to  come but all the demonstrations were being enjoyed by two other schools via video- conference.\u003cbr/\u003eThis futuristic day out at America's world famous science museum, the Smithsonian  Institute, was aimed at stimulating the young students into thinking about the  possibilities of invention as a career.  \u003cbr/\u003eThe organisers of the electronic field trip say inventors are the key to the future and the  younger they start the better. \u003cbr/\u003eAlmost every industrialised country today feels that innovation and invention are the key  to future economic progress and global competition. And really, very simply what  comes out of this is are increases in productivity and jobs.  \u003cbr/\u003eSUPER CAPTION:  Arthur Molella, Director Lemelson Centre\u003cbr/\u003eThis Rent-a-Car can be booked via telephone using your credit card and the controllers  will locate the nearest rent-a-car to you saving time and preventing pollution.\u003cbr/\u003eThe young inventor said he never realised how much was involved in inventing  something.\u003cbr/\u003eI thought that once engineers came up with something they didn't have to worry about   who would buy it, how they would sell it, how they would distribute it, how they'd build it  once they got it to work. How they'd produce it. A tremendous amount of other things  go into it other than just the original idea.  \u003cbr/\u003eSUPER CAPTION: Mark Looney, Student University Nevada, Reno \u003cbr/\u003eSome of the ideas from the young inventors seemed blindingly obvious.\u003cbr/\u003eThese Smartblinds automatically adjust to the light, warming houses in the winter, and  cooling them in the summer.\u003cbr/\u003eNot only do they save energy but they will save money on heating as well.\u003cbr/\u003eIts these sort of ideas that scientists see as essential for the future.\u003cbr/\u003eIf this can be done at about ten to 15 percent of colleges and universities in America,  assuming that  each college would generate ten to 20 new teams a year. harness.\u003cbr/\u003eThe harness allows the dog to pull the wheelchair along much more quickly than their  human occupants can spin them.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Lemelson Centre hopes that after their
