If they are too expensive, which many expect, they won't, people won't buy them. People will just buy the old conventional, gasoline cars. That's why it's so important for the governments to step in to make requirements for cleaner emissions, for better mileage that will force car makers to develop these new electric cars. Various of electric cars on display\u003cbr/\u003eVisitors flocked around electric cars displayed at a show in Tokyo on Wednesday, sparking hopes of a new direction for the struggling auto industry.\u003cbr/\u003eGirasole, an Italian electric model, is already in use and over 2,000 cars have been sold worldwide.\u003cbr/\u003eThe two-seater car runs for 100 kilometres (62 miles) after being charged overnight at a 100 voltage power plug at home. \u003cbr/\u003eAdvocates for the electric car say it's clean, silent and offers better mileage. \u003cbr/\u003eWhat hampers the electric cars from occupying the road is its price, due to the expensive compact lithium battery, which compensates for the engine in a conventional car.\u003cbr/\u003eA Girasole costs 2.6 (m) million Japanese yen or 26 thousand US dollars.\u003cbr/\u003eMajor automakers like Toyota, Nissan and Mitsubishi Motors are already in the process of developing electric cars and some of them will be on sale in this year.  \u003cbr/\u003eUS auto makers are also hoping to sell electric vehicles in the coming years.\u003cbr/\u003eThe green new deal policy proposed by new US President Barack Obama and tighter regulations point toward a hopeful picture for electric vehicles.\u003cbr/\u003eObama, earlier this week, pressed automakers to make greener cars, possibly introducing smaller cars, more hybrids and advanced fuel-saving technologies to showrooms.\u003cbr/\u003eHe directed the Environmental Protection Agency to review whether California and more than a dozen states should be allowed to impose tougher auto emission standards on carmakers to fight greenhouse gas emissions. \u003cbr/\u003eSimilar regulation and incentives for the consumers by the government are also being planned in Japan to
