to the Washington, as Hawaii born Barack Obama prepares to take up residence in the White House \u003cbr/\u003eNow Honolulu, which already lures millions of tourists each year, is beginning to see development of Obama tourism. \u003cbr/\u003eThe friendly aloha spirit is a source of pride in the island and visitors are traditionally welcomed with a floral garland known as a 'lei'. \u003cbr/\u003eTourists' first experience with the unique Hawaiian culture is often when they receive a traditional lei at the airport. \u003cbr/\u003eThe delicate garland of flowers strung on a piece of string is placed around the neck as a sign of 'aloha' which is often translated as 'welcome'. \u003cbr/\u003eSharon Weddle is the activities director at the Hilton Hawaiian Village resort. \u003cbr/\u003eShe holds regular lei making classes for enthusiastic tourists. \u003cbr/\u003eWeddle says that the gift of a lei is also popular for birthdays and anniversaries. \u003cbr/\u003eLocal tradition says that leis are gifts of love and should not be thrown away but should be disposed in a natural way, such as by hanging them on a tree or burying them in the ground. \u003cbr/\u003eBut not all leis are perishable, Weddle is wearing a lei made of yarn and ribbon which can be worn over and over again. \u003cbr/\u003eHonolulu international airport leis boasts several stands where people make and sell leis. \u003cbr/\u003eMama Wasmen says that some of the flowers she uses to make leis are grown locally and others are mass produced abroad. \u003cbr/\u003eAngie Worth, a member of the US military says that she is buying a lei as a farewell gift for one of her soldiers. \u003cbr/\u003eAs Obama says 'Aloha' to the White House, Hawaii hopes to welcome even more tourists with a
