The title comes from a quote by Albert Camus, \"in the depths of winter, I finally learned that within me there lay an invincible summer.\"  k.d. lang credits it as the point of departure and source of inspiration for the new album, and the quintessential summer soundtrack of all time.\u003cbr/\u003eEqual parts surf and samba, capris and cotton candy, Beach Boys and bossa nova, 'Invincible Summer' is the Grammy-winning vocalist/songwriter's evocation of everyone's favourite season. \u003cbr/\u003eSelf-produced with Damian leGassick (of William Orbit renown), Invincible Summer features a lineup of A-list musicians that includes ace drummer/ bassist/guitarist (and co-writer) Abe Laboriel Jr., guitarists Wendy Melvoin and Greg Leisz, multi-instrumentalist (and co-writer) David Piltch, and Teddy Borowiecki and leGassick on keyboards.  \u003cbr/\u003eRecorded last year at a leisurely pace in and around Los Angeles, 'Invincible Summer' reveals new facets of k.d. lang's multi-layered musical talent including a much more optimistic, positive spin on life that came about from listening to the Mamas and Papas and Brazilian music.  \u003cbr/\u003eThe singer has earned a mantel-full of awards, including multiple Grammys for albums such as 'Shadowland', and 'Ingenue' - each release revealing new dimensions of her singing and songwriting talent. \u003cbr/\u003eAdd to that a reputation as a world-class concert performer and a growing career as an actor in both film and television, it's no small wonder k.d. felt the need to reconnect with her songwriting skills once again. \u003cbr/\u003eFollowing her critically-acclaimed last album, DRAG, k.d. began to experience something of a drag on her creative and career drive after what amounted to five straight years of writing, recording and performing.  As part of a programme of relaxation and restoration, k.d. relocated from her farm country home in the Canadian hinterlands to sunny Southern California - a move that set in motion a musical quest for endless summer. \u003cbr/\u003eAnother key element in k.d.'s new perspective occurred when she bought a house and began an extensive course of renovation.  Working with carpenters, plumbers and contractors she gained a real appreciation for everyday life and for people who take pride in what they do. \u003cbr/\u003eAn outgrowth of this new connection with life's simple pleasures came in her desire to connect with the mainstream.  Producer Damian leGassick, who'd been introduced to k.d. at a party by Madonna and her 'Ray Of Light' producer, William Orbit, helped k.d. to achieve her goal.  He took care of the technical aspects, including all the keyboards and programming, as well as string arrangements, which gave k.d. the freedom to maintain close communication with her co-writers and oversee the project in a more cinematic manner, looking at the big picture.\u003cbr/\u003eBut when it comes to her current tour - which is taking her round America, Canada and Europe until her final concert in New York on 2nd December - k.d is eschewing the current obsession with grand shows. Unlike many contemporary performers, lang isn't interested in grand sets, sexy costumes or fancy make-up.  She told APTN that her tour performances are about connecting with the audience through her music - and even admitted that her fashion sense had got worse over recent years.\u003cbr/\u003eRecorded over five months at a pace k.d. describes as \"easy-going,\" 'Invincible Summer' took shape around songs that used the season as a rich metaphor to explore a wide range of themes in a full palette of musical textures, from the rich insights of \"Consequences Of Falling\" and the shimmering spirituality of \"Love's Great Ocean\" to the delirious danger of \"Curiosity\" and the bittersweet beauty of \"Only Love.\"\u003cbr/\u003eLang is also a realist about the success of her album \"Ingenue\".  She admits that its popularity is due in no small part to her coming out as a lesbian in 1992 - which instantly gave her a natural fan base, and made her concerts somewhere gay people could safely congregate.\u003cbr/\u003e1.
