If you fold open their wings the shelves slide open.\u003cbr/\u003eExperts believe this medal cabinet was commissioned by Napoleon around 1810.\u003cbr/\u003eThe gout d'Egypte style became extremely popular in France following the Emperor Napoleon's African campaigning. It was helped by the architect Baron Dominique Vivant-Denon who accompanied Napoleon through Egypt.\u003cbr/\u003eMaxine Fox, the senior director continental furniture at Sotheby's says: \"This represents the zenith of the gout d'Egypt style and in fact when Napoleon went on his Egyptian campaigns he took (Baron Dominique Vivant) Denon, who as I said made all these sketches, but also he took a whole team of people and apparently Napoleon was the one who actually developed the interest in Egyptology.\"\u003cbr/\u003eThe cabinet is extremely rare, and the only other surviving piece comparable to this is housed in New York's Metropolitan Museum.\u003cbr/\u003eIt is expected to fetch up to ï¿½500,000 (USD $765,000) when it goes under the hammer \u003cbr/\u003eThe object expected to make the most at auction is this renaissance antique marble top with a reputed Medici provenance. This is tipped to raise up to ï¿½1.2 million (USD $1.83 million) at auction.\u003cbr/\u003eThe table top is one of the largest geometrically designed Roman antique marble inlaid commessi ever conceived, according to Sotheby's experts. \u003cbr/\u003eIt has been produced with genuine Roman marble.\u003cbr/\u003eMario Tavella, chairman of furniture at Sotheby's Europe, says: \"In the renaissance there was the rediscovery of antiquities and this table combines all these rediscovered antique marbles set in the contemporary design.\"\u003cbr/\u003eThese precious table tops were important status symbols for Europe's richest and most powerful ruling families.\u003cbr/\u003eTavella says: \"Every court in Italy had a table of this type and they were used really to impress the visitors but also to display collections of antique bronzes of renaissance bronzes and also the fact that they are made from really resilient and hard stones it was almost a symbol of the eternity of the dynasty who owned these types of tables.\"\u003cbr/\u003eThe collection includes vases and beautiful filigree mirrors, however, it is the number of renaissance clocks that will make this auction particularly interesting for time piece collectors.\u003cbr/\u003eThis pocket watch by expert watchmaker George Daniels is one of just 25 watches he painstakingly created over his long career.\u003cbr/\u003eThe 18k gold watch is estimated to fetch up to ï¿½400,000 (USD $610,000) at auction.\u003cbr/\u003eThe renaissance clocks, of German origin, are all early examples of what would later become the domestic clock. They were technological trailblazers and would have been stunning examples of micro-engineering at a time when most clocks were large scale and expensive centrepieces of public buildings and cathedrals.\u003cbr/\u003eJonathan Hills, clocks specialist at Sotheby's, says: \"They were the beginnings of domestic clocks, prior to these being made the majority of people would never have seen a domestic clock the only clocks available at the time - we're talking about the late 16th Century - were those clocks available in public buildings, chuches, cathedrals.
