Wide of presidential palace \u003cbr/\u003eBolivian President Evo Morales suggested on Tuesday that Brazil's Petrobras simply \"give\" its two Bolivian oil refineries to his government as talks continued over the Brazilian state energy company's nationalisation deal with its neighbour.\u003cbr/\u003ePetroleo Brasileiro SA, known as Petrobras, and other international companies last week signed new contracts allowing them to continue operating in Bolivia under the terms of Morales' May 1 decree nationalising the country's natural gas and oil resources.\u003cbr/\u003e\"With these new contracts, the Brazilian investment in our country is unblocked,\" Morales said. \"So now, I want to tell them, that investment will remain internally.\"\u003cbr/\u003eYet to be determined, however, is how much Bolivia will pay to buy back two Bolivian-built but Petrobras-operated refineries that together produce 90 percent of Bolivia's fuel for domestic consumption.\u003cbr/\u003eThe two refineries in question are together estimated to be worth some US$150 million.\u003cbr/\u003eThe president added that his government would guarantee gas to Brazil \"but exercising our right to proprietorship through a contract.\"\u003cbr/\u003eMorales also suggested he would be willing to \"buy back the refineries.\"\u003cbr/\u003eBrazilian Mines and Energy Minister Silas Rondeau said on Monday that Brazil won't simply give the refineries to Bolivia, saying the two nations are separately assessing their value, according to Brazil's Agencia Estado news agency.\u003cbr/\u003eAfter the values are determined, Brazil and Bolivia will negotiate an amount for Petrobras to be compensated for the refineries. But he said no time frame has been set for the conclusion of those negotiations.\u003cbr/\u003eThe two countries have set a deadline of November 10 to resolve the price that Brazil pays Bolivia for natural gas, but that deadline could be extended, Rondeau said. \u003cbr/\u003eBolivia wants a much higher price. \u003cbr/\u003eThe Andean nation supplies Brazil with about 50 percent of its natural gas, and the figure is closer to 80 percent in Sao Paulo, Brazil's industrial heart. It is used by industry for power generation, and as fuel for cooking and cars. \u003cbr/\u003eAlso on Tuesday, President Morales backed off plans announced earlier this month to nationalise Bolivia's mines but restated his desire to eventually recover control of the South American country's mineral wealth.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Bolivian government last weekend signed deals with international energy companies allowing them to continue operating in the country under the terms of Morales' May 1 oil and gas nationalisation. \u003cbr/\u003eOn Tuesday the president said revamping Bolivia's mining industry would be his \"next task\" after hammering out the final details of the petroleum contracts.\u003cbr/\u003eMorales said he wanted to \"totally consolidate the hydrocarbons nationalisation.\" \u003cbr/\u003e\"But we also recognise as a government we do not have the the necessary economic resources to nationalise the mines,\" Morales
