Now the parties to the conflict are moving to form a government of national unity, holding out the real possibility of peace. President Mbeki of South Africa deserves credit for his efforts to broker a peace agreement. All of Congo's neighbours have officially withdrawn their forces. Now I urge these governments to actively support the creation of an integrated national army and the establishment, by June 30th, of a transitional government. The United States is working with the Congo and its neighbours to ensure the security and integrity of their borders. Bush:\u003cbr/\u003e\"To help Africa become more self-sufficient in the production of food, I propose an initiative to end hunger in Africa. This initiative will help Africa to use new high yield biotech crops and unleash the power of markets to dramatically increase agricultural productivity. But there's a problem. There's a problem. At present, some governments are blocking the import of crops grown with biotechnology which discourages African countries from producing and exporting these crops. The ban of these countries is unfounded. It is unscientific. It is undermining the agricultural future of Africa. And I urge them to stop this ban.\"  \u003cbr/\u003e6. Bush waded further into Africa's political and military strife on Thursday, calling for an interim government to be installed in Democratic Republic of Congo by next week.\u003cbr/\u003eIn a speech to a group representing American investors in Africa, he urged the establishment by 30 June of a transitional government.\u003cbr/\u003eHe also asked leaders of neighbouring governments to actively support the creation of an integrated national army. \u003cbr/\u003eAccording to aid groups, Congo's nearly five-year-old war has killed three point three (M) million people, most through war-induced famine and disease.\u003cbr/\u003eIn his address, the president also said he wanted to encourage African nations to exploit high yield genetically modified crops and called on some of them to rescind a ban on these crops so Africa could export them.    \u003cbr/\u003eEarlier this week, Bush accused the European Union on worsening famine in Africa because countries were reluctant to buy seed for these crops for fear of not being able to export them. \u003cbr/\u003eThe EU imposed a moratorium on the farming and import of biotech foods and grains in 1998.\u003cbr/\u003eBiotech crops have been widely grown in the United States for years, including corn and soybeans genetically modified to resist insects or disease\u003cbr/\u003eCritics have accused the Bush administration of trying to push risky science on struggling nations.\u003cbr/\u003eBush chose to speak out on African issues in advance of his five-day trip to the continent starting July 7.\u003cbr/\u003eBush's trip to Africa
