to Christmas season shopping as stores offer bargains on what is known as Black Friday, the busiest shopping day of the year.\u003cbr/\u003eConsumers started lining up outside stores on Thursday night - some retailers opened at midnight while others opened early on Friday morning.\u003cbr/\u003eIn New York City, Macy's department store reported over five-thousand people were waiting outside the store at five in the morning.\u003cbr/\u003eWhile at the department store's Washington, DC branch a well-behaved stream of shoppers surged through the doors and quickly made a beeline for the various departments for sale items.\u003cbr/\u003eAcross the country, in Dallas, Texas, a queue gathered outside the consumer electronics giant Best Buy for scores of holiday bargains.\u003cbr/\u003eSome were looking for laptop computers, others for popular items like large screen televisions and Apple iPhones.\u003cbr/\u003eSome economists are predicting that sales should be up by one or two percent over this time last year.\u003cbr/\u003eOthers are suggesting that sales may be stagnant or actually drop by several percent given the downturn in the economic climate.\u003cbr/\u003eIn Marietta, Georgia, some dedicated shoppers had had a long wait for stores to open.\u003cbr/\u003eErnest Bell had been queuing for nearly 20 hours outside an electronics store, waiting for it to open on Friday
