And we did it like, we did it just after we'd written the song so that we were sort of sat there and we were like, instead of playing live, we didn't have any equipment so we couldn't play live, we didn't have a band, so we were like lets make a video instead. So we had this idea, we wanted a girl, we wanted a dancer in it who was very ordinary, and very kind of just, we wanted to celebrate how ordinary they were and so we thought how do we find one? And we put an advertisement in a shop window and it said 'dancer wanted for pop video, must wear black, turn up here at this time.' And there was only one person who came. And that was the girl in the video. She came, we filmed it in about an hour and she just disappeared. We never saw her again. We didn't think anything of the video at the time, because it was just like, the band was just starting but now we're a year later and two million views later, every interview we've ever done everyone asks about her and so we decided to make the video we've always wanted to. But we couldn't find her still, so we made like a tribute to her. But it wasn't that long ago that the pair, hailing from Manchester in England, had a different story to tell. \u003cbr/\u003eTheir debut single, \"Wonderful Life,\" which was the first song the duo wrote together, documents those dark days.\u003cbr/\u003e''It was quite a horrible time for us, we were unemployed, on the dole, very insecure and unhappy and we wrote that song as a way of trying to escape, and get out of a life we didn't like,'' explains vocalist Theo Hutchcraft. \u003cbr/\u003e''So the lyrics were about us wanting to be saved. It's amazing that, what are we now, a year and a half later, and that song now around the world has become our, kind of ticket around the world. It has taken us out of that life. So it's quite an important song for us really,'' he adds. \u003cbr/\u003eThe song has already been a big hit for Hurts across the rest of Europe, with Greece and Germany in particular taking the pair under their wings. Instead of getting involved they started talking about music and swapped phone numbers and the rest, as they say is history.\u003cbr/\u003eAnderson describes their relationship as black and white, saying they both needed each other musically, with one supplying the music and the other the vocals.\u003cbr/\u003eHurts take their influences from 80s pop bands like Depeche Mode and Tears for Fears, but also list Take That's Gary Barlow among their favorites.\u003cbr/\u003eThe video for \"Wonderful Life,\" is a slick and simple offering and like the song, has its own story to tell:\u003cbr/\u003e''We made two videos for it actually. I think it's full of pop songs as well every song is a pop song,\" Anderson confides. \u003cbr/\u003e\"We wanted it to be like that,'' adds Hutchcraft. But it also made them one special one. The princess of pop: Kylie. \u003cbr/\u003e\"Devotion,\" one of the tracks on \"Happiness, \" required female vocals and there was only one person they wanted to sing that song. So one drunken night they decided to just write her an email and ask her right out agreeing that they had nothing to loose.
