streets of the capital for a victory rally as results showed the Maoists winning 100 out of 179 constituencies where counting was complete from last week's landmark vote and leading in most other areas.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Election Commission said that with more than two-thirds of the 240 directly elected seats allocated, the ex-rebels, now known as the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist), held a Assembly are still a few weeks off.\u003cbr/\u003eThe Maoists' strong early showing surprised most observers, who before the vote had them placing third behind the Nepali Congress and United Marxist-Leninists.\u003cbr/\u003eThe election has been touted as the cornerstone of the 2006 peace deal with the Maoists, who ended their armed struggle to join the political mainstream.
