Monday, pumping dozens of bullets into their car as it passed through a street crowded with schoolchildren, in an apparent botched assassination attempt that could ignite widespread factional fighting.\u003cbr/\u003eThe children's father, Baha Balousheh, is considered a leading enemy of Hamas. \u003cbr/\u003eBalousheh, a Fatah loyalist, was a lead interrogator during a crackdown on Hamas a decade ago.\u003cbr/\u003eBalousheh arrived at the funeral surrounded by bodyguards, wiping his eyes and comforted by supporters. \u003cbr/\u003eHe told AP Television News he found it difficult to express his feelings for he was a father who had lost his children but he held security forces responsible.\u003cbr/\u003e\"I hold the security forces and all the Palestinians responsible,\" he said.\u003cbr/\u003eThere was no immediate claim of responsibility for the drive-by attack, which left the children's schoolbags and a small plastic bag with a sandwich covered in blood.      \u003cbr/\u003eSenior officials in the intelligence service, which is loyal to the Fatah Party of President Mahmoud Abbas, blamed the Islamic militant group Hamas for the shooting. \u003cbr/\u003eBut Hamas denied involvement and denounced the drive-by attack.\u003cbr/\u003eGunmen in two vehicles riddled the car carrying the children with some 60 bullets, Palestinian security officials said. \u003cbr/\u003eThree of Balousheh's sons, ranging in age from six to 10, were killed, in addition to an adult, hospital officials said. \u003cbr/\u003eBalousheh was not in the car.\u003cbr/\u003eFour more people were wounded in the attack on Palestine Street, which is lined with nine schools. \u003cbr/\u003eAt midday thousands of people marched through the streets of Gaza City in a funeral procession for the three children.\u003cbr/\u003eHundreds of pro-Fatah security officers were among the marchers, many of them firing gun shots into the air.\u003cbr/\u003eThe three dead children, still wearing their school uniforms, were carried in the arms of family members at a mosque. \u003cbr/\u003eThe bodies were then wrapped in Fatah flags and taken to a cemetery. \u003cbr/\u003eSecurity officials said they believed the shooting was an attempt to assassinate Balousheh, noting that the car's windows were tinted, blocking a view of the passengers, security officials said in a killed in Gaza' escalating lawlessness since Hamas defeated Fatah in January parliamentary elections, the death of the children was especially shocking and was likely to trigger widespread
