Of course, many countries on the Security Council like the UK have tried to exercise those responsibilities. We've tried for a long time to pass resolutions that would require the implementation of the Geneva communiquďż˝, of a transitional government made up of regime and opposition.\"\u003cbr/\u003e9. Wide Hague leaving\u003cbr/\u003eBritish Foreign Secretary William Hague on Saturday said no decisions had been made on amending or lifting a European Union embargo on providing weapons to Syria's rebels, which expires at the end of May.\u003cbr/\u003e\"There will be discussions over the next few weeks. France's Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius. \u003cbr/\u003eHague also said that the Syrian National Coalition pledged their commitment to a \"free and democratic Syria\".\u003cbr/\u003eIn a joint statement, the foreign ministers said they welcomed the Syrian National Coalition's \"firm rejection of extremism and its commitment not to use chemical weapons\" and cited those commitments in agreeing to enhance and expand support for all coalition institutions.\u003cbr/\u003eAt the conclusion of the conference that began Saturday afternoon and stretched into early Sunday, Kerry announced a new package of assistance worth 123 (m) million US dollars in non-lethal aid for the rebels.\u003cbr/\u003eUS sources suggested the supplies could include body armour, armoured vehicles, night vision goggles and advanced communications equipment, with other items not included in the assistance package in the past.\u003cbr/\u003eThe additional money will double the non-lethal assistance to the Syrian opposition as well as increasing humanitarian aid.\u003cbr/\u003eBut the fresh US help fell short of the strongest demands from the National Coalition: drone strikes to disable Assad's chemical weapon and missile capability and a no-fly zone requiring significant military operations.\u003cbr/\u003eThe additional aid, which brings total non-lethal US assistance to the opposition to 250 (m) million US dollars since the fighting began, \"underscores the United States' firm support for a political solution to the crisis in Syria and for the opposition's advancement of an inclusive, tolerant vision for a post-Assad Syria,\" Kerry said.\u003cbr/\u003eThe United Nations estimates that the fighting in Syria has killed more than 70-thousand
