Etchegarray saying goodbye to church officials\u003cbr/\u003eA group of European peace protestors took to the streets of Baghdad on Monday to show their solidarity with the Iraqi people.\u003cbr/\u003eSome of the group said they wanted to act as human shields in the event of military action against Iraq.\u003cbr/\u003ePeace protestors have travelled from across the world in recent weeks to act as shields, in an attempt to stop bombing which could harm Iraqi civilians.\u003cbr/\u003eOn Monday one member of the group said they were only willing to act as human shields for the Iraqi population, not for any possible military targets within Iraq.\u003cbr/\u003eElsewhere, UN inspectors visited the Uum al-Maarik Munitions and Weapons Plant outside Baghdad. \u003cbr/\u003eThe inspectors have visited the facility in the past and spent several hours there on Monday. They made no comment on their findings.\u003cbr/\u003eInspectors also visited the al-Amien missile factory in Fulja, 100 kilometres (60 miles) west of Baghdad.\u003cbr/\u003eMeanwhile protestors demonstrated in front of the United Nations Development Programme calling for continued UN inspections and an end to US threats against Iraq. \u003cbr/\u003eThe bulk of the demonstrators were Iraqis, a mix of Iraqi Boy Scouts, schoolchildren and others.\u003cbr/\u003eThey staged a noisy but peaceful protest for an hour.\u003cbr/\u003eA group of Japanese peace activists also staged their own protest.\u003cbr/\u003eThey arrived from Japan two days ago to show their solidarity with the Iraqi people and are planning to stay for another three days.\u003cbr/\u003ePapal Envoy Roger Etchegarray ended his visit to Iraq on Sunday night, saying \"he hopes the Pope's message of peace\" will prevail in the ongoing crisis.\u003cbr/\u003eEtchegarray met with Saddam Hussein during his trip, but revealed few details of the encounter.
