to celebrate Easter Week's Holy Fire ritual. \u003cbr/\u003eThrongs of policemen were deployed around the Church of the Holy Sepulcher to control an estimated 10 thousand pilgrims. \u003cbr/\u003eMany worshippers were turned back without being able to get inside the church, which tradition says was built on the site where Jesus was crucified, buried and resurrected.\u003cbr/\u003eIt honours the belief that a holy fire appears spontaneously from traditionally believed to be Jesus' tomb, as a sign that he has not forgotten his followers. \u003cbr/\u003eThe Greek Orthodox patriarch, Theofilos III, went into the traditionally believed to be the tomb of Jesus. \u003cbr/\u003eWhen he emerged with a flame, church bells pealed and the crowd started to cheer.\u003cbr/\u003ePilgrims passed around the flame, lighting candles with it, and the church courtyard filled with smoke.\u003cbr/\u003eThe fire is then set to be passed on to worshippers in Bethlehem's Nativity Church.\u003cbr/\u003eThe
