In the past we talked about Africa, but I don't think so, I do think there is a shift towards Peru and Bolivia. We have seen increases in Peru and Bolivia. In the case of Peru it is more worrying than in that of Bolivia because we see the penetration of international cartels, above all Mexicans, something that doesn't happen anymore in Colombia and Bolivia. Various of eradicators uprooting coca plants \u003cbr/\u003eColombia's coca crop shrank by nearly a fifth last year while cultivation of the bush that is the basis of cocaine rose for a third straight year in Peru and Bolivia, the world's two other coca-producing nations, the United Nations said on Friday.\u003cbr/\u003eThe UN Office of Drugs and Crime (UNODC) said the 18 percent reduction in Colombia, the world's top cocaine producer, from 2007 owed in part to record manual eradication - as opposed to aerial herbicide spraying - of 96,100 hectares (371 square miles) of the crop.\u003cbr/\u003eTraffickers tend to migrate to countries where there is less police pressure and eradication, the UNODC's representative for Colombia, Aldo Lale-Demoz, told reporters.\u003cbr/\u003e\"There's a shift from Colombia towards Peru and Bolivia,\" he said, calling Peru more worrisome due to \"the penetration of international cartels, above all Mexicans.\"\u003cbr/\u003eIn its annual survey of the Andes' cocaine trade, the U.N. agency said coca cultivation in Colombia dropped to 81-thousand hectares (312 square miles) - the lowest since 2004 - while Bolivia's crop increased by 6 percent and Peru's by 4.5 percent.\u003cbr/\u003eIt put Bolivia's coca crop last year at 30,500 hectares (117 square miles) and Peru's at 56,100 hectares (216 square miles). Crop eradication was down in both countries, by 13 percent and 16 percent respectively.\u003cbr/\u003eIn last year's report, the U.N. noted a 27 percent increase in coca cultivation in Colombia, the world's top producer of cocaine.\u003cbr/\u003eEstimated cocaine production in Colombia, a major recipient of US anti-drug aid, was down 28 percent last year to 430 metric tons from 2007 - with 20,000 fewer households growing coca, the U.N. said.\u003cbr/\u003eColombia analyst Adam Isacson, of the Washington-based Centre for International Policy said the finding should be taken with caution as peasants who lost their savings in collapsed pyramid schemes in October began replanting coca on a huge scale.\u003cbr/\u003eThat certainly offset, said Isacson, some of the gains reported by the U.N. from use of the herbicide glyphosate on 133,496 hectares (515 square miles) of coca crop last year.\u003cbr/\u003eNeither Peru nor Bolivia use herbicides against coca and the United States complains that Bolivia is no longer a serious partner in combating drugs after expelling US drug agents last year for alleged espionage.\u003cbr/\u003eNevertheless, the U.N. said drug trafficking was seriously disrupted overall in the region, with 200 tons of cocaine seized in Colombia, 22 tons in Bolivia and 12 tons in Peru.\u003cbr/\u003eRemnants of the Shining Path insurgency, which was nearly eradicated in the mid-1990s, control an area on the eastern slope of the Andes that the U.N. says is now the world's leading source of cocaine.\u003cbr/\u003eThe U.N.
