I have no merits at all. I am the result of the love you have shown me for so many years,\" Beligan told them. \u003cbr/\u003eThe award was verified on 29 November 2013, when Beligan was 94 years and 350 days old. \u003cbr/\u003eBorn in 1918, Beligan was raised in a modest family. \u003cbr/\u003eHe had four brothers and his father was described as an unlucky actor, as Beligan himself remembers. \u003cbr/\u003eBeligan studied law and philosophy and used the scholarships he received to pay for his theatre studies. \u003cbr/\u003eHis debut on the stage was in a play by Fyodor Dostoevsky, and in 1945 Beligan became the director of the National Theatre Bucharest, a position he held for more than 20 years. \u003cbr/\u003eDuring a career that's spanned more than 75 years, he's had 80 roles in theatre plays and 30 roles in films. \u003cbr/\u003eCurrent National Theatre Bucharest Director, Ion Caramitru, paid tribute to Beligan. \u003cbr/\u003e\"He is the greatest actor Romanian theatre schools have produced.
